Past Projects

Societal Computing

Societal Computing is a project that explores the impact of computational tradeoffs on issues and concerns facing the society as a whole such as Privacy, Climate Change, Green Computing, Sustainability, and Cultural Differences.
In particular, Societal Computing research will focus on the research challenges that arise due to the tradeoffs among these areas.

HALO (Highly Addictive sociaLly Optimized) Software Engineering

HALO SE is a project that applies engaging qualities of games to a software engineering environment to make it more fun and social.

genSpace

genSpace is a project in collaboration with the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (C2B2).
In this project, we explore the use of social networking metaphors for knowledge sharing and assisted collaborative work.

CloudView

CloudView is a project that enables detection and diagnosis of network faults using a peer to peer architecture.

CPU Torrent

CPU Torrent is a proof-of-concept project in collaboration with the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (C2B2).
In this project, we researched and implemented a framework to enable sharing of CPU cycles by offloading certain computation to alternative providers.
This helped us in reducing user wait times and service provider resource requirements.
