Discourse Conjunction

The CONJs auxiliary tree is used to handle `discourse' conjunction, as in sentence ((298)). Only the coordinating conjunctions (and, or and but) are allowed to adjoin to the roots of matrix sentences. Discourse conjunction with and is shown in the derived tree in Figure 16.4.
