Internationalization

Internationalization was one of the features most widely requested by Java customers. JavaSoft licensed the internationalization solution provided in JDK 1.1 from Taligent.

The JDK internationalization features are fully integrated and make it easy for programmers to write global applets and applications from the beginning (not as an afterthought).

Enhancements include the display of UNICODE characters, a locale mechanism, localized message support, locale-sensitive date, time, time zone and number handling, collation services, character set converters, parameter formatting, and support for finding character/word/sentence boundaries.
