Roots of Bob

Rocks And Gravel

Outtake from "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" sessions, 1962. Krogsgaard indicates this song is adapted from Lenny Carr's "Alabama Woman Blues" Brownie McGhee's "Solid Road". Heylin calls it an arrangement of a traditional song. Although Dylan is credited with full authorship, this is very similar to a traditional song of the same name. Of this song Dylan has said [source?] "I learned one verse from Big Joe Williams, and the rest I put together out of lines that seemed to go with this story. "
