I co-edit a journal called Graphical Models. For many years London UK was the home office for its owner, Academic Press. My editorial contact there was Kate B. We communicated periodically by email, but the bulk of my interactions were with the production office in San Diego. One day there was some urgent matter and I needed to call Kate. This was a risky proposition as the UK was 5 hours ahead, so there were few moments when we were both likely to be in our offices. I picked up the phone to dial her number but there was no dialtone.

Hello?
Hello, Norm?
Hello, Kate?

It was Kate on the line, calling me at precisely the same time (for a different reason) -- and my phone hadn't even issued a single ring!
