Favorite Books: Lyle H. Ungar
Nonfiction
I read mostly fiction, but here are a couple of nonfiction books
you should think of reading.
- Guns, Germs and Steel, Jared Diamond, Norton, 1997
Sweeping history of the human race, arguing that crops and domesticated
animals determine, indirectly, who survives and prospers.
- The Quantum Challenge , Greenstien and Aajonc, Jones and Bartlett, 1997
Remarkably clear description of the philosophical issues raised by
modern quantum experiments. A model of technical science writing.
- Three Roads to Quantum Gravity ,
another surprisingly easy read.
- The Selfish Gene Dawkins
A classic on modern evolutionary theory. For a lighter read, try
Beak of the Finch or Love, Time, Memory by
science writer Jonathan Weiner.
For implications for humans, check out The Moral Animal .
Fiction
Garcia-Marquez, Michael Ondaatje, Gloria Naylor, ... and all of
the Booker and Man-Booker award winners
I'm too lazy to type in even my favorites.
