Greetings. You've somehow stumbled onto my little niche in the vast
organized chaos that is the World Wide Web.
Since you're here, I'll be the good host and introduce myself. (In case you
haven't noticed, this is a minimalist page - I haven't done much to it since I first created it in 1995...back when we edited html by hand, typing uphill
both ways. Think of it as visiting a historical site...I'll get around to
actually doing something decent someday. Right.)
I work for Verizon Communications in
Virginia. I've spent the past few years on the Fiber to the Premises service
(aka FiOS) architecture and design, dabbling with things like quality of
service, network admission control and policy management, IPTV, video on demand and home
networking. I'm also an adjunct Assistant Professor at Penn in Philadelphia, PA, teaching a graduate
telecommunications seminar (TCOM
670). Prior to Verizon, I spent many years at Penn working on my
Ph.D. under the guidance of Profs.
Jonathan Smith and
David
Farber. And before that I used to design video processors for Intel. For my
dissertation I architected VENUS, a scalable network architecture for a virtual
environment (this was before Second Life...). Put simply, I showed how to
create a big 3-D virtual world. Apparently the real world isn't good enough. If
you're interested, take a look at some of the stuff I wrote.
So much for the serious stuff. On to more fun things...my non-academic
interests include
skiing,
running,
poker,
humor (especially
really bad good puns),
Scrabble,
foosball,
paintball,
caffeine,
and
procrastination.
Over the years I've found some interesting
quotes worth remembering. And some worth forgetting.
Friendly email
is always welcome. Friendly fire is not.
