Susan's name in Chinese, pronounced (roughly) kahng shoo lahn I received my PhD from the Department of Computer and Information Science of the University of Pennsylvania in May, 2006.

My research interests are in the domain of Natural Language Processing (NLP)/Computational Linguistics.

I came to this field via many twisty little passages, not all alike. One of the passages was an undergraduate degree in Asian Studies (Chinese) from Wellesley College. That is where I was given my Chinese name, the given-name part of which is "book orchid." My CV is here.
