CIT 591 Installing the Processing plugin
Fall 2014, David Matuszek

Don't do this

If you go to the "official" Processing page, it will tell you how to install the Proclipsing plugin for Eclipse. If you use this to create a new Processing project, what you will get is a Java project, with the appropriate packages installed.

Do this instead

  1. Go to this Github site, and click the Download ZIP button in the right-hand column.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file. This should give you a folder called processing-eclipse-master. There will be five folders in it.
  3. Figure out where you have Eclipse installed. Alongside it, you will find a folder named dropins.
  4. Move the five folders from processing-eclipse-master to dropins.
  5. If Eclipse in running, restart it.

Don't do this

In Eclipse, click File → New... → Processing → Processing Sketch.

Any project you create this way seems to be irretrieveably broken!

Do this instead

  1. In the Processing IDE, create and save a sketch. It doesn't have to be anything complicated.
  2. In Eclipse, go to File Import... Processing Import Sketch Wizard.
  3. Browse to the folder containing your sketch, and save it somewhere.
  4. You should now be able to edit and run your program in Eclipse. Everything should work from this point on.
