If you want to get out of taking a required CIT course because you believe you already know the material, and would not benefit from taking the course, here's how to do it:

1. Convince the instructor you already know the material.
• How you do this is between you and the instructor. I do not waive requirements for courses that I do not personally teach
2. Have the instructor inform me.

In particular, for CIT591 (Java):

• If you are a Sun Certified Programmer for Java 2 Platform, show me your exam results. That will usually be enough.
• If you have Java programs you can show me, that will help.
• I do not currently have a test that I can administer. Sorry.

Important note:

If you waive any of the CIT courses, that does not reduce the number of courses you need for the MCIT degree. You are still required to take ten courses; it's just that more of them can be electives.

Bear in mind that all electives counted towards the MCIT degree must be strongly computer-oriented. That means CIS or TCOM courses, or courses specifically approved by me.
