I am part of the Natural Language Processing group at UPenn.  I am advised by Professor Ani Nenkova.

My research focuses on indicators of text quality. I am interested in investigating what constitutes good writing in different genre of text and developing automatic methods to predict the quality. As part of this research, I have developed fully automatic evaluation methods for content and linguistic quality of news summaries. Another aspect of my research has been automatic discourse parsing and the role of discourse for summarization. See my publications for more details and our tool for automatic content evaluation of summaries is also available for download.

My goal is to incorporate text quality predictions in different applications such as article recommendation, information retrieval and authoring tools.

Before starting at Penn, I received my undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering from College of Engineering-Guindy, Anna University at Chennai, South India. I was born in Trichy, a beautiful temple city in Tamil Nadu.
