Nessie's History

• Jeff and I picked up Nessie on a trip to Scotland in 1998. We convinced her to come home with us, and she's been living here with me in Philadelphia since then. (This may contribute to the lack of recent sightings in Loch Ness.) She has visited Harvard Business School (and picked up a t-shirt there), Liverpool NY, Pittsburgh PA, Washington DC, Las Vegas NV, Tuscon AZ, San Francisco CA, and has even entered the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament.

• Nessie would like to live in a castle someday. She misses Scottish castles.

• Tartans!!!

  It seems that there are two official Loch Ness tartans. There is a greenish one which may be called the "Loch Ness District Tartan" or "Loch Ness Trade Tartan". There is also a bluish one, which has been manufactured by Lochcarron since 1995.

• This is the most famous image of the Loch Ness Monster. It was taken by R.K. Wilson, a London doctor on April 19, 1934.

• Nessie may have a relative in China. Here's a story about China's "Lake Tianchi Monster".

• A diver walked around the bottom of the lake and said "I have only seen two fish up to now, which either means there are not many fish in the loch--- or something has eaten them all."

Mac Queen's Nessie

• Mac Queen's Nessie is an Austrian beer (they call it a "red ale", but it is actually golden) brewed with Scotch whiskey malt, which is smoked. It is made in the Castle Brewery of Eggenberg in the Oberösterreich region of Austria, in the town of Eggenberg / Vorchdorf.
