The Xerox Java applets that render Arabic script use a font by Yannis Haralambous that was downloaded from the Internet. It was clearly marked "Public Domain", but I have so far been unsuccessful in contacting Mr. Haralambous to thank him and to cite his work properly.
The metafont description was used to generate Arabic-glyph bitmaps that were then converted into Java data structures. The font was also augmented manually by Ken Beesley to include glyphs for waSla and dagger 'alif.
