Prior Experience and Preparation in Programming
The MCIT Program is for students whose undergraduate degree was
not computer science. Students in the program come from a wide
spectrum of computing experience. When asked about their computing
expertise here is what some of the students said:
• No prior programming experience
• 1 semester C++ in high school
• took C but then forgot it
• 3 months programming
• 1 year programming
• 1 semester C, some informal computing experience
• 4 years programming experience including web development
• 1 year C++, some computer coursework
• some web design and video editing
• several semesters C, Java, data structures, OS, algorithms
and architecture
• IT support 4 years
• several years programming including C, C++, Java and VB
• year of database, year of Java, some C++
• several years computer experience including C, C++, Java
and HTML
• 2 years programming experience including C, C++, Java,
C#, ASP, PHP
• extensive computer experience, mostly self-taught
