Since more than 2 decades, researchers have been working on the fascinating topic of simulating humans. Now the field has reached a mature stage and we can see these humans in many various areas. In our talk, we will discuss the modeling of virtual humans, particularly a survey of whom has done what in this area and our expertise at MIRALab, particularly our based on examples methodology to model humans. As humans are dressed, we will also discuss the making and the animation of 3D clothes and present several examples made for the fashion industry.
We will show also how virtual humans can be used in cultural heritage applications, and we will describe our European research project LIFEPLUS where we use mixed realities technologies to see real scenes of Pompei and its former inhabitants.
