We
operate in a Web-based, XML-enabled, E-Services-conscious, Peer-Collaboration-friendly,
Grid-forward-looking atmosphere. We are tormented by such questions
as "Where on the Internet can I order a reliable replacement
for the blade of my pencil sharpener?", or "Am I sharing
music files with a convicted felon?". Anyway, my talk will
only be about querying data that is distributed across a network.
More specifically, about designing languages that we can use to
program (and re-program) the behavior of such distributed systems.
We will discuss what features are expected and beneficial in such
languages. We will also discuss how to put to use past experience
in distributed and concurrent software, such as work on process
calculi and distributed database systems.
