Instructor: Eleni Miltsakaki

Office Hours: M/W 5.30-6.30pm

The aim of the course

GREK 015 is an integrated four skills course. The aim of the course is to provide ample practice opportunities for the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing in Greek.

To that effect, audio material will be used in each class to expose the students to a variety of Greek accents and familiarize them with Greek intonation patterns. Class participation is essential for the development of the speaking skill and role play will be highly exploited. Reading and writing sections will be included in each class but students are also expected to do extra work at home.

At the end of the course students will be able to talk and write about simple everyday routines, past experiences and future plans. They will also be equipped with a range of colloquial expressions and vocabulary needed to survive as visitors in Greece!

Who is it for?

The course can be taken by all undergraduate and graduate students to fulfill their language requirement, and by everyone else who wants to learn Greek. No previous exposure to the language is required.

Textbook

The title of the textbbook is ELLINIKA TORA 1+1, accompanied by an exercise book and is available at the Penn bookstore. ELLINIKA TORA 1+1 will also be used in the Spring Term for GREK 016. In addition to that, photocopied material will be provided in each class so students are advised to purchase a ring binder.

(The photocopied material is based on work done at the University of Crete. )

Part 1: reading comprehension

Part 2: writing

Part 3: grammar
