I was born in Washington D.C. and spent my first nine years growing up in the suburbs of the capitol. The remainder of my school years were spent in Bryn Mawr, a suburb of Philadelphia. I graduated from high school in 1993 and moved to Williamstown, Massachusetts to attend Williams College, completing my undergraduate studies in 1997 with a B.A. in English literature and Computer Science.

After one year working in industry for an internet start up, I came to The University of Pennsylvania in the Fall of 1998 to pursue advanced studies in Computer Science as well as to learn more about the growing field of Bioinformatics. I worked in Professor Lyle Ungar's data mining research group from 1999-2005 focusing on developing machine learning solutions to a wide array of problems. My research spanned such areas as: biological sequence modeling, recommender systems, and natural language processing. My dissertation focused on developing and identifying best practices for active learning using the logistic regression classifier.

I graduated from Penn with a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science in 2005. Currently, I develop quantitative strategies for a hedge fund in Greenwich, CT.
